... the food was juicy in all the right places. My steak and kidney pie was a fantastically flaky crust encasing tender hunks of roast beef complemented by chewier, gamier kidney, slathered in thick, peppery gravy. Pies were served with mash and mixed veg, of course, the highlight of which was a surprisingly great turnip-and-carrot purée... The fish was unbelievably juicy and flavourful under its coatings. I'd never had anything like it. KCDC and I both preferred the breaded style for the extra crunch, but the battered held together well, never getting greasy or soggy. And with a solid heap of home-style fries and tasty tartar sauce, this was substantial...

While haggis is Scotland's most celebrated meal, The Glen Scottish Restaurant's claim to fame is its fish and chips. Made from haddock imported from Scotland, your order can be prepared three ways: dipped in The Glen's special batter, poached in lemon juice, or battered and breaded. As we were indecisive, we were happy to order the McConville Special that offers one battered and one breaded. And it was good: the breading and battering of the two significant portions had a light and crispy exterior with moist, flaky and flavourful fish inside. It is easy to see why people keep coming back for more-this is a must-try!
